Thomas Kinkade 3D

 

Whooo Hooo, I was able to do some blog hopping the other day. How fun that was!!! I have missed so many awesome projects. I still have many sites I have not gotten to. I am planning on spending some time tomorrow morning blog hopping again. I don't want to miss reading such great posts and seeing all the projects!

 

No card today, but a really pretty 3D image. When I found some Thomas Kinkade 3D image sets on Moonstone Treasures I just had to get them. Each set contains 10 images, two each.They have a CD set that contains 3 more sets, which I am sure I will get soon.

 

This is the first image I made. I sure learned a lot about how to do these 3D images. First, I thought they would be easy to cut out since there really weren't any very small parts. I was wrong. The edges are quite detailed. Having several layers, like the pine tree, cutting each the exact same way was no easy task.

 

Second, there are some tiny areas. The snowman has a twig arm with a glove on the end. How skinny/tiny that was and a bit hard to cut!!! The lamp also has a pole sticking out on each side that are equally skinny/tiny. Really could not leave them out, otherwise they would only be on the bottom layer. That would make them look out of place.

 

I also learned that they are not so easy to photograph. They are on shiny paper, kind of like photo paper. I was able to get 4 photos that looked OK.

 

This first one shows the actual colors of the image. The others came out off, I am thinking it is because the way the light hit them.

 

Isn't this stunning! And the photo just does not do it justice. The paper really makes the "light" show up like it does on a TK print. I thought of adding some glitter or something, but it looks so pretty as is. 

Here you can get and idea of the amount of layers. I lost my biggest dimensionals, so had to use lots of smaller ones. For the bottom 2 layers I used 2 mm high dimensionals. For the rest I used 1 1/2 mm ones.

 

It really worked out nice that way. I figured that when an item is closer to you, the less depth it has. Also, for things like the chimneys, they would not seem so far separated from the house (if that makes sense)

 

Yikes, look at all that yellow. The color is so off here. It does show a bit of how the depth of the image looks, which you really can not see in the first photo.

 

I tried to take a closer shot of the difference between the 2mm and the 1 1/2mm demensionals. You can see it quite well with the tree, snowman and chimneys.

I plan on making sets of Christmas cards to sell in my Etsy store, though I have read that cards really don't sell well. I thought these were so unique that perhaps people would purchase them.

I am not sure what I am going to do with this one. Since it is my first, it is not as good as I think it should be in order to sell it. I am going back and forth between using it for a Christmas card for myself or framing it.

To frame it, I would need a shadow box frame, but not a really deep one. I looked at my local Micheal's, but they only had ones that were something like 2" deep. I think this image would get lost in it. I may be able to add some layers of corrugated board behind it to bring it closer to the front. I'll have to think about how I would mat it also.

A Couple Of Fun Stories and A 3D Bird

Hi Everyone! It has been a while, again. I have been fighting some health issues and some depression the past couple of months. Of course, whenever my body is under any kind of stress I have a fibro flair, sniff sniff. I did force myself into the craft room and got a card made. It did take 3 days, lol, but I am so happy to have gotten something done.

I have some fun things to share with you first. I know it will make the post a bit long, but I hope you enjoy reading them.

I was still pretty bummed yesterday but I had to sit my grandson. On my way there, I ended up behind a truck with it's back center window open. The German Shepherd in the truck kept putting his front feet and head out of it, ha ha ha. He was having such fun enjoying the wind, excitedly sniffing and looking around. He kept being told to get back in and he listened. Just like a kid, though, getting back in only meant for the next minute or so. Out he popped again, over and over. He made me laugh so much! I wish I had a video camera. Out went the blues. Isn't funny how the smallest thing can make such a difference in someones day :o)

Also, my daughter and son-in-law have been trying to have another baby for a year now. She went to the Dr last week so that they could start running tests. Of course, the first thing they check is the guy. OH, my poor son-in-law! Not wanting to drag things along, he dropped off his...well...you know..."sample" yesterday morning. I just can't imagine the embarrassment a guy must feel doing that, OH MY, I am practically humiliated for him, lol.

Anyway, my daughter was craving oatmeal raisin cookies this past weekend, to the point that she actually made a bunch of them. The point here is that she does not even like them. On top of that she was whole 4 days late, YKWIM...so she decided to take a pregnancy test at work (she is a nurse at an immediate care facility, so she can get them free :o)

When she got home from work she handed me a plastic baggie. I looked at it and could not for the life of me imagine what that thing inside way. After laughing at me she told me what it was. It was a pregnancy test stick thing or whatever the thing-a-ma-jig is called. Yeah, I admit I am that old :o(  It was not just any test, though, it was a PINK one! Sheesh...I am so slow...I didn't even know what that meant!

You know where this is going...yup, she is pregnant! That means she was pregnant last week when she went to the Dr and when my poor son-in-law made his morning "delivery"...Poor guy!!! (I don't think I am supposed to know that part...so don't tell anyone, OK?!?)

Now, I am not supposed to tell anyone but my husband. Yet, I am sooooooo excited, how could I not tell someone! So I chose you gals :o)  Again....keep the secret until they let the world know, OK?!? {WINK}

Alright...on to my card...

I really liked this 3D bird image, though I have no idea why he is green. Have you ever seen a green bird? The image is 5 layers. Cutting the small parts, like the skinny flower stems, was not really the hard part for me.  The hard part was actually the stems as I put the image together. There is no way to adhere them with any type of dimensional since they are so skinny. I needed to "pull" them just enough that they did not sag/wrinkle or rip. Good thing I like a challenge ;o)

I used some metallic floss to stitch the flourishes and leaves. I really am my own worst enemy sometimes...the metallic thread is such a difficult thing to work with. It really does add that perfect "touch" since I really like how it shimmers (or anything that shimmers for that matter).

OK, as I have said before, I am a bit slow with some things. One of them is figuring out how to make a bow with multi loops. I tried that Bow Easy tool, which is not easy at all. They should add a "child proof" label on it since anything with those labels are not so "adult" friendly.

 

I finally figured it out though. This is the first one I made with my old, truely easy bowmaker. I adhered the green ribbon and bow over some organza ivory ribbon with metallic edges.

 

On the inside, I just paper pierced the flourishes and leaves on each side. I could not seem to get a good photo of it because the paper was so shimmery, it just reflected the light. If you click on the photo, I think you will be able to see it better. But you don't have too, lol, because if you do, it will look like the peircing is really off, with different size holes everywhere. Doesn't look like that in real life. I think I need a "less quality" camera that does not pick up so many details that the eye doesn't even notice.

Here you can see how the ivory paper shimmers. It has a pretty gold hue (I think that is what it is called) when the light hits it a certain way. The green layer is the same, which you can kind of see in the next photo on the upper right corner.

As always, I added what I think of as an "all occassion" sentiment.

3D Image In A Handmade Frame

Phew! It appears that I ended up taking most of the summer off, which was quite unintended. I am sad that I lost a couple of followers and want to thank all those who stuck with me.

I purchased the cutest paper tole images over the summer. I made one of them for this project.

Arent' they so pretty. I love the soft colors and content of the image. The paper tole sheet was die cut making it so easy to make. There are 4 layers total, all of which were large enough to make adding the dimensional foam easy to use.

The sheet is from the Paintbox Poppets Series from a set called Outdoor Children, which you can find HERE.

I needed to make my own frame due to the measurements of the image. I made the frame using some corrugated cardboard from a box. To cover it, I cut the appropriate sizes from a thick chipboard sheet. Can you believe I can't remember what I adhered it with! Yikes! (an embarrassed winking smiley would go here) I do know that it worked really well.

I had some really pretty butterfly embossed shimmer card stock. It is all white, though, since that is the only color I could find it in. No problem really. White can always become any color you want, yayyy. As you can see here, the shimmer just shines right through the ink.

I covered the top sheet with two Stampin' Up colors that matched the blues and greens in the image. For some reason, the photos show it as not matching so well, but in real life the paper really brings out the colors from the image.

I kept the paper on the edge of the frame white. You can see here how dimensional it is even from a top and side angle. The lace, pearls, flowers and butterfly look so lovely no matter which angle you are looking from.
I matted the image with some light purple shimmer paper, which really made the pale purples in the image pop out. I like matching the papers to the soft colors of an image so that they are seen more and not lost in the background.

I covered the back with more of the thick chipboard so that it would look neat. I then added a picture hanger so that it could be hung. To make sure that the nails did not slip out, I made the holes first, squished some liquid cement into and a little bit around them. Then I inserted the nails which will not come out, lol and the overflow holds the picture hanger on securely.

Though you can't see it in the photos, I put some of the inked butterfly paper around the inside edges of the opening. To protect the image, I used the Stampin' Up thick window sheets. These are fantastic! They are thick enough to not flop around when using them, score and bend really well and adhere perfectly with double sided tape. They are still available in the current catalog on page 216, but do not mention how thick they are, only that they are window sheets.

You needn't worry about getting finger prints or glue on the outside (or even inside before adhering) because Goo Gone removes it all perfectly and easily without leaving any scratches or streaks! Isn't that fantastic! I love that, especially since I get more glue on the wrong parts of a project than I get where it is supposed to be.

It took me a while to figure out how to attach the pearl stand onto the frame. That is how the glue got on the window sheet, tee he he. Finally, I tried some of the 1/8" Score Tape. It worked wonderfully with no waiting for the glue to dry. Now THAT is incredibly important, WINK. I do wish it came in 1/16" wide though, as the 1/8" is slightly to wide. It really is not a big deal on this project, but may be on another project in the future. Do you think I should write them about making some, lol. would you ever use it that thin?

 

See those little knots. Those simple little knots seemed like the perfect way to snazzy up the corners a bit, since I did not want to add so many embellishment as to distract from the image. 

 

Simple! Yeah, right! Sheesh..Those things are a real pain, lol. Trying to tie them in just the right place was no easy task for me. Thinking back, I suppose that I could have adhered the lace to the edge, then tie the knot where I wanted it. That may have worked, though I am not sure I would not just pull the ribbon off the edge as I tied them. Hmmm...I guess it would be worth a try next time. Have you found a way to do this easily? If so, I would love to know how!

Paper Piercing and Roses

Well...here I am after a couple of weeks. I made this card a while ago but have suffered from what my husband calls "a brain fart", lol (I hope that wording does not offend anyone) I just could not think of a thing to write. Finally, I decided to just sit down, type and hope that it all makes sense.

Thank you Checkerbeads and Lisa808, for answering the question I asked in my last post. Both of these wonderful ladies have fantasic blogs full of beautiful and unique creations which you can find by clicking on their names. I am glad that you said you don't mind reading the supplies" through out the post. To be honest, I really am not sure how to write any other way than to "talk" in it :o)

I did decide, though, to add a list of supplies at the bottom of my posts for those who are short on time and are not able to read the whole post.

I absolutely love paper piercing, paper stitching and paper tole. The past few months, I have not had much time to do so because of babysitting my grandson. But...I had to take the past 6 weeks off of sitting due to some surgery I had. Yee haw...time to do my fav!

This is a paper pricking pattern from Fred She Said that comes in the kit called "Diamond Rose w/Paper Pricking Pattern". Such a pretty pattern. I have seen lots of people color in part of patterns (especially those who do paper stitching) and wanted to give it a try. With a such a simple pattern, it was soooo easy to do.

I am not sure if you can tell, but I used 3 paper piercing tools on this, each in a different size. The largest for the leaves, mid size for the flourished and the smallest for the vine in the leaves. Of course, pearls are a must!

This rose is from the same kit. In Photoshop Elements, I cropped off the paper piercing pattern on the corners, deleted the pre-colored background (using the wonderful Magic Wand) and printed the rose 4 times. I made the rose 4 layers but the top and bottom leaves only 2 layers.

If you look closely at the first 2 photos in this post, you can see I replaced the deleted background color with a softer one using chalk.

For the base of the card I used the Ruche paper I purchased from Paper Temptress. What I really like about this paper is that it adds a nice texture without having to pull out embossing templates and my big shot (saves time, tee he he). The colors tend to better match my color schemes than other papers also.

I just love this patten paper called English Rose by Kaiser Craft, which a dear friend Elizabeth gave me. Wasn't that just the sweetest!!! She has a beautiful blog called Visions Of Paper, which has the loveliest creations, that you can get to HERE.

This is 12 x 12 paper which I very rarely use since the patterns are much bigger than I think look good on a card. I find this paper not only beautiful, but easily cut so that the pattern doesn't make the card looked cluttered with the larger images.

I very rarely use rub-ons on paper either. These rub-ons go on so easily and completely, I just can't help but use them to snaz up the card. In 2 photos, above you can see the 5 flower and 4 leaf rub-ons I used for the inside of the front. 

In the photo just above that one (3rd one up) you can see how well they rub on and adhere to the paper. You can't even tell they are rub-ons, they look so much like a part of the paper. I just love that, since one of the reasons I don't like rub-ons is the "frame" (for lack of a better word) around the image.

You can barely see it here unless you click on the photo, but I added some rub-on words to the left center rose and the lower left corner of the opposite side.

Paper Tole Goose Egg

Well, here is another Goose Egg that I made. I made one like this a while ago which you can see here. There are 6 eggs to this set , 2 of which I have purchased so far. I hope they don't stop selling them before I get the other 4.

As you can see, my impatience got the better of me again and the Swarvoski crystal slid down the bow, lol. This is the first time I was able to make a multi bow with my bow maker. It never occurred to me to wrap the ribbon around the dowels in an eight pattern until my mother mentioned it. It really works great that way.

The image is made from 2 identical prints. The first is added to the egg flat. The next one is cut out to add the dimension. Each grass blade and flower petal have to be cut separate, giving lots of tiny pieces to work with.

This kit came with the image already to cut by pre-covering it with mod podge. I was a bit frustrated with this one because they added too many layers of it, which made it quite difficult to cut. Toling the pieces was another chore all together. I would tole them and they would just go straight again.

The first egg I made like this took only 1 afternoon from start to finish. This one took 2 afternoons just to get the image cut and toled. For the next kit, I am going to ask for the print not to be prepped so I do not run into this problem again.

Each side was pre-cut for the pattern. I will be purchasing the tools to learn to cut this spring. Until then, I depend on pre-cut eggs in the kits.

Each side is glittered and outlined with a thin gold cord. Before attaching the cord, I run it through some mod podge that I had on my fingers. This makes the edges not fray and much easier to make it "curve" around the pattern.

I am having a blog created, called Egg Transformer, of course. It should be ready next week. I am excited about it because the name and blurp under the header will make it come up when people do searches for egg art. I have tried looking for other blogs myself and could not find one! The only thing that came up were online stores which sell supplies.  I would love to see other blogs though.

3D Display Globe Card

Ohhhhh...I am so excited to show you this card today. It is the first oval aperture card I made from Flower Soft. I used the 3D kit called Christmas Snow Globes. This kit is not die cut so you have to cut the layers by hand. I did not find it hard to do or time consuming at all.

After adhering all the layers with dimensionals, I added lots of the Ultra Fine White to make the snow on the church, trees and ground. I just had to snaz up the star so I added some of the Flower Soft Diamond Range Silver.  I am not sure if it looked better without the silver, since the silver is not ultra fine. I do wish it came in ultra fine. Actually, it would be nice if more of the colors came this way as well as the original Flower Soft.

Here you can see the layers. As I added the snow, I did not completely cover the trees, roof, hill, which is on the right side and the snow in front of the church. You really can't see the snow mounds in front of the church well in the photo, it looks like the loose glitter I added to the globe is covering it. But in real life you can see it pretty well.  I chose to just add the Flower Soft where I thought the snow would pile up. Kind of like how it would pile on roof shingles and mound on the hill and along the walkway in front of the church. I think that is kind of hard to see too, unless you click on it to see it a bit enlarged.

Oh My Gosh, isn't this paper just the prettiest! I found it at a scrapbook store and just had to have a few sheets. Kind of which I bought more, lol. The corners gave me such fits, grrr. It was so hard to get the sizzlet (I think that is what they are called) to cut through the silver card stock. I tried so many times, I used up just about a full sheet just to make 4 corners.

I am going to have to try gluing the bottom of the pearls again, I think. This is where the ends connected and the ends just would not stay around the oval. I could of held it in place for a half hour or so, but...sheesh...who wants to do that!

I made the inside using the same gorgeous paper as the front. It embosses so well. The sentiment came out perfect even with such a small font.  The paper also takes ink well, so there was no problem using it for the layer where a personal not would be added.

I am a bit disappointed that the loose Flower Soft clings to the globe a bit. I guess I expected the globes to be static free or something. It is not to bad, certainly could be much worse.

This card absolutely will not go through the mail without lots of extra postage, so I think I will give it to someone I would hand it to in person. Maybe my Pastor. I have a few more I can make, since the card kit comes with enough to make 5 cards. The 3D sheets also come in 4 scenes, so hopefully I can make the 3 others. Then think of 3 people I will be handing the card to in person. LOL. Hmmm...I will have to check to make sure I have enough of that pretty paper.

Well, off to make my mailable Christmas cards, which you can see here. I thought I made a simple design, but when making 20 or so, is does not seem so simple, lol Oh well...maybe I will figure out an even simpler one for next year.

3 Cards, 1 Image

Hi everyone! Today I want to show you the adorable Dolly Dingle 3D Image < (link directly to Dolly Dingle) from Nicecrane Designs. Such cutie pie image using the Campbell Soup type girl images.(remember them?)  I love Ignacios' images and paper as well as making 3D images, as you all know. Well, I just could not wait to use this wonderfully adorable Dolly Dingle.

I had so much fun with her, I ended up making 3 different cards. I am only going to show you the outside of the cards since I did not take the time yet to do the inside. I was enjoying her just to much!

On this card I think I may have added to many pearls (is that possible, lol) Believe it or not, I find putting on pearls and jewels quite relaxing now that I discovered the bottle and tip that makes tiny dots of glue. You can see what bottle I am talking about in my post HERE. The top layer just under the embellies is a patterned paper with some very pale pink swirls. I just could not get it to show up well, so the layer looks white.

For my first card, I used the image as the directions indicate. Isn't she just so cute.

This is the first time I have made the green twirls to use with the flowers. Ever since the first time I saw someone use them, I have been wanting to use them too. I had no idea how to make them or where to buy them though. I asked one blogger but she never got back to me. Finally, I found a blog where she told how to make them. I wish I could remember whose blog it was, but I don't and did not book mark it for some reason.

TIP: It is so simple, I felt silly for not thinking of it. You simply twist the stem of the flower on a small round tool, such as an embossing tool (which is what I used) I am not sure if others leave the stem on the flowers or not, but I cut mine off and then twisted them. This gives the ability to put them where ever you want.

Here you can see the layers on the image. They are big enough to make cutting them out easy. I used quite a thick card stock to print it out on, which left the edges showing white. I simply used my Copic C3 marker around all the edges before adhering them.

For this card, I printed the image out 2 times. Both of them fit on one sheet when I cropped off the directions. I made it as the directions indicated, then took it one step further. Using the second set of the image pieces, I cut them down even more. An example would be just the rim and flowers on the hat and just the toe part of the shoes. This made the image have 5 layers.

Once I was finished with this card, I still had one of the bottoms of the image left. I decided to use it for a "flat" card. Again, the paper is not showing the colors correctly. The plain paper is actually Old Olive from SU. I have no idea why it looks kind of grey. Hmmm...This new camera just may be to full of bells and whistles for me. I did finally figure out the "white" setting, but I guess getting the correct colors to show is another setting...sigh.

All 3 cards are so similar, making them was quite easy since the designing part was done with the first one. AND....WOW...MIRACLE OF MIRACLES...I found the perfect paper for all three in the first paper pack I picked up!!!

The dragonflies are from Penny Duncan who has a store on Etsy. She sells the finished dragonflies as well as some butterflies. She also has directions on how to make them if you prefer to do so. I prefer to purchase the finished ones, lol. The tutorial included free cut files so you don't even have to cut them out by hand. How great is that! What a sweet person she is. Flower Soft Die Cuts

WOW, Have I been busy. I did not realize just how busy until I saw the date of my last post. I had some really minor surgery yesterday and because of the endocarditis last year I had to see several Dr.'s before getting the OK to have it. Sheesh.

I had to purchase a new camera, which I love. It has so many bells and whistles. The manual is 250 pages long though, so I am still learning to use it and will be for quite a while I am sure, lol. I use the macro setting most of the time so read that section twice. I am still having a hard time getting it to focus on that setting though. Then, even without the flash, the pictures come out a bit bright. I tried changing the "white" setting, but I have not read that part of the manual. Anyway, all that just to say I am sorry the photos are not the greatest. Hopefully I will get used to it soon.

I have worked on this card on the couple of the days I did have to play. I had been wanting to try the Flower Soft Die Cuts for a while and finally bit the bullet and bought some.

They are so easy since everything is die cut. All you have to do is take your embossing tool and rub the back side of the cut leaves and flower petals. The center oval had a peach colored rim around it, but it did not match the paper I chose. I simply cut it off and went over the edge of it with one of my SU ink pads. I also do not have the right color Flower Soft  for the center of the flowers, so I just colored some white pearls with my Copics and glued them on.

In this photo you can see the color of the flowers much better You also can see the layer using some pretty home made paper I bought years ago and never found a project to use it for. The lace was hard to see alone, so I added some ribbon under it, now the details on the lace show quite well. It looked a bit naked, so I added some flat backed pearls on top.

The sentiment I chose is from Stampin' Up. It fit the oval perfectly. I don't own many sentiments. I used to think that I could just type one up and print it, lol. What was I thinking! Imagine trying to get a sentiment printed in the center of a die cut oval! I will be watching for more rubber sentiment stamps, that is for sure.

Agggg...look at how bright that is :o(  I even edited it! Well, even though the colors are not showing up well, I am sure you get the idea of how the inside looks. I really like the home made paper here. The texture it adds is wonderful and the dried flowers and stems in it show up more.

I was going to stamp a Thank You inside but decided that if I did I would want to use it for something else. Then not be able to because of it, lol

Humming And Eating Away

Hello :o) I am so glad you stopped by today. Why??? Because it is the first day of this weeks Digital Tuesday Challenge. The challenge this week is Flower Power. What fun, who does not like to use flowers on their cards, scrap book pages and altered media.

I simply could not seem to color this week. After taking a couple of weeks off coloring, it just seems to have gotten sloppy :o( I am so sad because I love her images and own quite a few of them. Please stop by the challenge blog and see some of the images that the DT used. They are so totally beautiful.

Since I just could not get coloring to look right, I used a pre-colored image I had in my digital stamps file.

Why siggie is here I have no idea! Blogger did not have the code for it in the HTML draft, so I could not remove it. Grrrrrr...You can just scroll down a bit to see my card.
 

I used a simple paper tole technique for this cutie. I think that the flower being paper toled makes it look like the humming bird beak is really inside the flower.

I am not sure if you can tell, but I also paper toled the birds body, head and some of the further away flower petals. It gave them a wonderful embossed look being raised from the paper. I did winkle the bird a bit, so really want to practice the the technique. It is so fun, I am sure I will be doing it a lot in the future.

I am really liking this new to me embossing folder from Stampin' Up. It has been in the catalog for the past year and was not sure I liked it. I saw some cards made with it and decided I just had to have it, lol. I used it for the base layer and like how it embossed the back of the card front, too, adding interest to the inside of the card.

Something great happened when I was making this card. While I was waiting for the glue to dry, I sat out on my back porch. I have a few hanging baskets there and a humming bird came along and started feeding not a foot from me. I have never seen one close up before, they are so pretty and gentle. After feeding on about 10 flowers he/she stopped, just fluttering there. After about 10 seconds, it noticed me and flew to the next basket and ate away. How awsome and so ironic that I was working on a humming bird card! Maybe I should make more of them so I can see him/her again, lol
