Ice Fairy and Winner of Blog Candy!

WOW, with all the double entries I had 83 in the drawing. Thank you all of you for being a follower!
What I did:
1. I wrote all the names on a list check marking those who had double entries
2. Numbered another paper 1-83 and randomly added names so each person had a random number.

Today I am sharing the 2nd scenic egg I made at the egg art show 2 weeks ago. I call this one Ice Fairy since my imagination can't seem to come up with a more unique name. Isn't she cute. She is actually made out of porcelain. What a lovely little thing she is and I do mean little, being only approximately 1" tall.

The egg is actually a real goose egg. The inside is blown out through little holes on each end. Before being ready to use, they are thoroughly cleaned and bleached. I do wonder what the goose thinks about this, lol

Here are a couple of photos to show the beautiful dimension of the scene. What a wonderful ornament or holiday decoration this will make.

Melanie also release 3 new sets today. You can see them all here. They are just too adorable! You will be excited to start those gazillion Christmas cards you need to make once you see them!

I love snowmen, so decided to use the Seasons Tweetings set.

As with all of the WWI images, Zipped files include:
1 image in black and white jpg, colored jpg, and transparent png
This actual set includes:
1 border image and 2 sentiments in black and white jpg and transparent png

I chose to use the colored version this time, again because my week was exceptionally busy. Not only is the colored version great for quick cards but they help make a project simple enough for any child to make.

I added just a little bling to the outside image to snaz it up a bit. The smaller snowman image is a sticker for sealing the outside of the envelope. The image on the envelope was also printed on the sticker sheet which I purchased from Papertrey Ink quite a while ago. I simple cut them to size and adhered to the envelope.

I made 5 of each and a box to keep them in. I think this is a perfect set to give a child so they can send their own Christmas cards or give one to their teachers.

Unique Handmade Flowers

So, what makes these roses so unique. Well...they are made of fish scales. I know....uggggg and yuck...but wait...the people who make these get them from their local fishermen for free, which make them extremely affordable. After arriving home with them, they are thoroughly cleaned. Once they are cleaned the scales take (2) 24 hours baths in bleach. When dry they are colored various colors.

If you saw and touched them, you would NEVER guess what they were. They feel very much like a thin plastic. What is the best part of using them is that they are bendable, shapable and cutable. They truly are a fun medium to work with.

I took a class on how to make these roses at the egg art show I attended last week. With it came 3 full ziploc baggies of different color scales. I think there are more in these baggies than I will ever use, lol.

The texture and natural pattern of the scales make them perfect for flowers. When looking at them from the side you can see the texture adds a look of a really petal.

To use the flowers, all I need to do is clip the toothpick off. Glue adheres really well to these which I find to be another benefit. When using some other flowers, such as Prima, many glues just don't hold them. I usually use my glue stick and find that getting the glue on the spot I desire is quite a challenge. I will never give up using my Prisma! I do find these little flowers to be a nice change from the standard though.

I will be using these flowers on a card or project very soon and am excited to show you just how lovely they look in use.

A Childs Birthday

A young child's card is one thing I have very few of (well...as of today I have 1, lol). The other kind of card I am desperately lacking are masculine cards. Today, I am sharing the 1 child card I have.

Wink Wink Ink makes these adorable images. I used the sets Teddy Bear Messages and Birthday Necessities. I decied on the precolored images for this card, since, as I said previously, my week have been super busy. All I did was add some dots and swirls. I thought a small child would like a 3D type card. I made the bear using 3 layers plus the sentiment.

Playing with the images in PSE is so much fun. I did not allow for the sentiment to bend when sizing it. To compensate, I used some toothpick that I cut into small pieces.

One thing I need to practice, which really should be very easy, is adding polka dots to images. Anyone have any tips?

To make the balloons shiny, I covered them with mod podge, not wanting to wait for crystal effects to dry, such a Sandy thing, bwaa ha ha.

My grandson will be 1 year old the end of December so I think I will save this for him. His favorite toy is a huge teddy bear that my daughter got years ago. It must be 4 feet tall, lol. He loves to climb on it, bounce on it (forget the Johny jump up!), cuddle with it, grab its fur and pull it, rub noses with it...you name it...this bear is his favorite play buddy. I think he will love this card, if I can hold on to it until then!

A Tuesday Tip and Challenge

Hello everyone and thank you for stopping by today. Seeing is it is Tuesday, we have a fun Digital Tuesday Challenge for you.

I decided to use the magnolia images for my card. Magnolias are one of the very few flowers I love that are not lilies. I really need to purchase more red Copics! The few I have really did not match the beauty of a  magnolia flowers color.

I have been so very busy this past week that I decided to make a clean and simple card for the challenge. Since I could not find any designer paper to match the flower, I used one of my embossing folders and went over it with a little bit of chalk, then paper piercing the layers.

I do have a quick tip for you. I've mentioned before that I used my black or gray Copic markers to outline, or go over, the white edges of  images I cut out. I stopped using them for this purpose because I have found that the ink tends to leak into the image when I do. Another reason is that I slip a lot and get lines of markers on the colored image.

I now use my Prisma color pencils. They work even better than the Copics for covering the white edges  and is erasable. Here is an example of the difference between outlining the image and leaving the edges white.

This inside flower was cut out and as you can tell, when you click on the photo, I am not very good at keeping the edges even. I did not outline this image after cutting (I must admit I forgot, LOL), which makes a perfect comparison to show you.

The outside flower I did outline using my black Prisma pencil. It really makes an unbelievable difference! It looks so much prettier and you can't tell where I cut off the images outline {wink}
